Relish is about honest food, cooked with joy, and here we celebrate some of the voices – and the lives – of people who do the same.
The Shiksa in the Kitchen
The Shiksa in the Kitchen is our first to mess with Hanukkah tradition, by replacing matzoh meal with panko. But even if your holiday is just like your grandparents’ in every other respect, it’s awful hard to argue with extra-crispy: Crispy Panko Potato Latkes
3pastriesaday
It’s one thing to jettison the matzoh meal in potato latkes, but to ditch the potatoes is downright heretical. 3pastriesaday gets away with it, though, by subbing in thin-skinned, mild-tasting delicata squash. The non-Jews among us are thinking ‘breakfast.’ Baked Delicata Squash Latkes
Two Lazy Gourmets
Latkes aren’t the only Hanukkah option. There are also traditional jelly doughnuts called sufganiyot. And, although there’s not an obvious connection between the two, they’re both related to Hanukkah because they’re fried in oil – oil being the menorah fuel central to the story. Last year, Two Lazy Gourmets posted their Easy Homemade Sufganiyot, and we still love them.
Global Table Adventure
But life isn’t all latkes and doughnuts. Dinner must go on! And we’d like ours to start with this Caribbean Pumpkin Coconut Cream Bisque from Global Table Adventure. Those flavors are made to be together.
Reclaiming Provincial
When was the last time you heard “kale” and “pop tart” in the same sentence? But it seems they go beautifully together – with garlic and cauliflower, no less. Reclaiming Provincial goes the distance and makes the dough from scratch but, if we were running late, we’d probably cheat with packaged puff pastry: Savory Kale Garlic Cauliflower Puree Pop Tarts
You Grow Girl
In this age of ever-more-expensive equipment, and ever-more-persnickety cooks who insist on it, we love You Grow Girl’s take on knife-buying: I Bought a Cleaver. In Fact, I Bought Two!
The Wednesday Chef
Flour. Eggs. Milk. Butter. A pinch of salt, and then some lemon and sugar. That’s it. The Wednesday Chef’s version of a pancake breakfast has a lightness and simplicity we find irresistible. Delia Smith’s Pancakes with Lemon and Sugar
Spoon Fork Bacon
Rice Krispie Treats are all well and good, but we’ve always thought they were missing a certain something. When we saw Spoon Fork Bacon’s version, we knew just what that certain something was. Yeah, that’s right: Chocolate Chip Rice Krispies Treat Cookies
